Mystical Moment

Mystical morning magic greeted our sleep deprived minds and helped clear the mental fog.  I almost felt a tinge of sorrow for those who were missing such a beautiful moment; while everyone else slept, we were the only boat cruising the glassy lake.  This gorgeous sunrise did not linger very long, in a few minutes...it vanished, and an ordinary day appeared.

Oh by the way, the fishing was great!

It's Just A Weed

It's a thistle...just a weed...and noxious to some animals (like horses).  Cut it down...no wait...let's enjoy it for awhile first.

Who are you?

His tongue tells him almost everything he needs to know.  With just a flick he can tell if you are friend or foe...or possibly...lunch.

Don't Even Think About It!

This rat is mine...go get your own!  This is exactly what I felt like he was saying to me as I approached him with his meal tightly seized in his coil of death.  His icy stare was enough to give me pause.

So Long Eagle's Nest...for now.

Farewell Eagle's Nest…it was truly grand.  We hated to leave but we will return. There will be a few more adventures before we venture back your way again.  I have a powerful hankering to visit the Comanche Peak Wilderness. I’ve heard tell there are fat Rainbows up there a plenty.  Think we'll go see.

My Favorite Flower

High in the wilderness, nestled in a secluded spot away from the trail, grows my favorite flower.  The Columbine is Colorado's state flower, and there couldn't be a better choice.

A Brave Heart and Good Balance Are Mandatory

One thing you have to become very adept at is crossing streams, and rivers.  One false step and it could be much more serious than just getting wet.  At this crossing the logs were about 5 feet above the water, the water was deep, and there was a very large waterfall just downstream (right where the creek disappears in this photo).  The water was roaring, the bottom log was flimsy, and I was holding my breath.

She made it, and I could breathe again. Then...it was my turn.

This creek had a much better bridge. No problem.

One more time back across the wobbly logs and we are home free.  We did loose one trecking pole that we never recovered.  It fell in the creek, went over the falls, and was gone.
